Rosemary Gladstar's Fire Cider
In the early 1980's, Rosemary Gladstar first prepared Fire Cider at the California School of Herbal Studies. And for over 30 years, Fire Cider has been a popular herbal recipe. And while Shire City Herbals has unethically gained trademark of Fire Cider, it remains a cultural folk recipe that you can concoct in your own kitchen, and enjoy it's spicy, sweet, and zesty medicinal properties.
With its antioxidant, antimicrobial, antiviral, anti-inflammatory, expectorant, and circulation stimulating properties, Fire Cider is very versatile
Some ways you can use Fire Cider:
A daily tonic, taking 1 tsp daily
Rub it on sore muscles
Mix with more honey to make a couch syrup
Soak a cloth and place on chest for congestion
Mix with oil for a zesty salad dressing
Add to soups
Use for pickling
To craft your own Fire Cider:
Each herbalist has their own recipe, so these ingredients are simply my suggestion. You can be flexible in how you make your fire cider.
1/4 cup fresh thyme, chopped
1/2 cup ginger root, diced or shredded
1/2 cup turmeric, shredded
1/3 cup horseradish root, shredded
2 heads white onion, chopped
2 heads of garlic, chopped
2 organic jalapeno peppers, chopped
2 lemons with peal, diced
Raw apple cider vinegar
Raw honey to taste
Place all ingredients into a quart jar and cover with the apple cider vinegar. Cover tightly, and store in a dark, dry place for 8 weeks. Strain into clean jar.
Will taste tangy, sweet, and firey.
